Your assignment in lieu of much reading for our class after Spring Break is to spend 45 minutes looking for good videos related to basic genetics. For example: https://www.23andme.com/gen101/genes
I’d be happy to have a list of podcasts, too, so send those names, descriptors, location information if you find something appropriate.
Here ya go! Enjoy.

After reading Case 16 about unprotected sex, I feel that the doctor should be able to tell the HIV-positive patient's partner that he (the patient) is HIV-positive. If someone doesn't tell the partner, he could end up contracting HIV, when they could have been safe and prevented the whole issue. It isn't fair to the partner to not be told about his partner's health status when it could effect him in a significant way. For these reasons, I think that Dr. A should tell Brian P.'s partner that he is HIV positive.

Hey everyone,
ReplyDeleteI could not figure out how to initiate an original post so I had no choice but to reply with in here. I hope this finds you well.
This topic is not something that I identify with but yet it holds a special place within me, as it represent equality for all. If you have a moment take a look at this article from FL. Its a very interesting read. http://miami.cbslocal.com/2015/03/17/transgender-bathroom-bill-moves-forward-in-house/
I was recently speaking with a few friends, after several glasses of wine, and in doing so was enlightened to a new perspective on this matter. In that conversation, the argument was a 9 year old girl goes to the mall with her father and needs to use the restroom. While inside she encounters someone who identifies as transgender; in this case Male to female. The said trans person is still in the early stages of their transition an frightens the little girl. In doing so, the father and the trans person get into an heated debate which turns physical. My question is, should laws that exclude members of the trans community from using the restroom of the gender with which they identify with pass on a state and federal level. In my opinion, it is a slippery slope. Surely there are perverts out there who would exploit this situation and use it to their advantage. On the other hand, I personally know several members of the Trans community whose transition is much further along and assimilate into main stream society effortlessly. These said trans men and women aren't sexual deviants and just simple want to use the restroom. Where is the harm in that.
In closing, I hope those who are quiet in class feel comfortable enough to voice their opinion. Although myself and others in class seem to be more vocal with our opinion, please do not let this stray you from speaking up. That is the beauty in classes structured like this. As long as everyone remains open-minded to other viewpoints, healthy, heated and emotional charged debate can be fun.
Paul.
This guy did a pretty good job of explaining it:
